Ângela Ferreira (aka Berlinde, Porto, 1975) is an artist, curator, and researcher with projects that foster artistic reflection and critical thinking within the field of Contemporary Visual Culture.

Ângela Ferreira (aka Berlinde) is an artist, curator, and researcher in the field of Photography and Contemporary Visual Culture. She holds a Postdoctoral degree in Arts and Interdisciplinary Poetics from the PPGAV at the School of Fine Arts, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She earned a PhD in Art Education, specializing in Visual Communication from the University of Minho, with a scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology, and a Master’s in Photography from the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands, supported by a merit scholarship from the Dutch government. She also holds a Law degree from the University of Minho and a postgraduate qualification in Artistic Direction from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto.

Her most emblematic work, Nhynã Aba, meaning “Indian Heart” in Tupi-Guarani, explores the myths and ancestral histories of Brazil’s Indigenous peoples. She played a key role in the strategic positioning and artistic direction of GNRation in Braga during Braga European Youth Capital. She is also a co-founder of Encontros da Imagem Photography Festival, where she served as general and artistic director.

As an independent curator, she has been involved in international festivals and exhibitions, including the Beijing Photography Biennale, the Korea International Photo Festival, and Goa Photo. Her work has been widely exhibited in institutions such as the Museum of Tomorrow (RJ, Brazil), FIESP (São Paulo), MAC Dragão do Mar (CE), the School of Visual Arts at Parque Lage (RJ, Brazil), the Museum of Bogotá (Colombia), CDF Montevideo Photography Center (Uruguay), and CAFA Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing, China).

Currently, she is part of the General Coordination of the SOLAR Photofestival, where she serves as artistic director, and is a member of the Curatorial Council of the Museum of Photography of Fortaleza, Brazil. She is a researcher and Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture, Arts, and Design at the University of Minho (EAAD) and at Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies (ULHT), focusing on hybrid forms of photography.

She is the founder of Nervo - Photobook Observatory in Portugal, a platform dedicated to critical reflection and discourse on the visual narratives inherent in photography books. Living between Portugal and Brazil, her artistic, curatorial, and academic work consistently examines how photography continues to engage with contemporary cultural narratives, shaping new artistic orders and structures.
